Help from our friends
At their core, democracies are designed to be powered by the people. This power comes from individual citizens that surround you. They are your neighbours, your friends and your family. Yet, as time passes, we may start to believe our shared responsibility is something someone else will take care of for us. As this happens, insidious disinformation and censorship takes root throughout our culture and systems of governance. A common myth suggests that everything will simply sort itself out and that we needn't worry. But perhaps more perilous is the notion that a select few control the reins of power, and we're not among them.
There still exists the basis for real democracy as long as citizens get involved and take personal responsibility. The Reclaiming Conference isn't just gathering of concerned citizens — it's a declaration! It's our opportunity to fill the Victoria Conference Center with collective voices of change. Together, we'll send a powerful message to every politician: Canada belongs to us, the people! We're here and ready to unite to make our voices heard like never before!
Thank you for being our friend and welcome to the 3rd edition of our newsletter! Let’s begin!
We Unify has been getting a lot of help from our friends Drea Humphrey, Ted Kuntz and Clyde Nichols from Clyde Do Something! We sincerely thank them for their support!
Stay tuned for our next newsletter as we’ll be releasing full exclusive interviews with these conference speakers as well as many other important stories!
In the meantime, you’re invited to check out the full conversation we shared with John Carpay from Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms!
Can’t wait for the conference in June? Join us on May 28, 2024 to share an evening with Artur Pawlowski, Kristen Nagle and Maggie Hope Braun! This event is by donation! See speaker biographies below and you can reserve tickets here!
Artur Pawlowski is a Polish-Canadian pastor and political activist. He was repeatedly imprisoned after not closing his church in Alberta and spent 51 days in jail after being arrested following a speech to truckers in Coutts, Alberta, in protest of Canada's vaccine mandate. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail for his involvement in the Coutts border blockade in February 2022.
Kristen Nagle is a former nurse from London Ontario and her organization Canadian Frontline Nurses was fined $315,000 in court costs after losing a libel lawsuit against the Canadian Nursing Association and a British Columbia media outlet. She claimed her reputation was tarnished and they were the subject of harassment and death threats because of published responses by the professional nursing group. She was one of two Canadian nurses who drew attention for speaking in Washington on January 6, 2021 and was actively involved in the 2022 Freedom Convoy.
Maggie Hope Braun, who was arrested during Ottawa protests, says the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act in 2022 was a violation of civil liberties. She later testified at the Emergencies Act commission hearing in Ottawa, explaining how she disagreed with the federal government’s COVID-19 mandates and the use of the Emergencies Act in February 2022 to end the Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa. She is currently actively involved in advocacy work with municipal Councils through her Gather 2023 initiative.

Almost 60% of Canadians feel free speech is under threat from Online Harms Act censorship
“Pierre Poilievre accuses Justin Trudeau of censoring opinions he dislikes, an argument he has used to denounce the Online Harms Act. Justice Minister Arif Virani insists the bill strikes the right balance between better protecting Canadians and upholding the Charter right to freedom of expression. The legislation has also come under heavy scrutiny for proposing stiffer penalties for hate speech offences, including reintroducing a section of the Canadian Human Rights Act that would allow people to file complaints against those who post online hate speech”

New York Times reports on thousands of cases of Covid vaccine harm. Anyone Listening?
“Within minutes of getting the Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine, Michelle Zimmerman felt pain racing from her left arm up to her ear and down to her fingertips. Within days, she was unbearably sensitive to light and struggled to remember simple facts. She was 37, with a Ph.D. in neuroscience, and until then could ride her bicycle 20 miles, teach a dance class and give a lecture on artificial intelligence, all in the same day. Now, more than three years later, she lives with her parents. Eventually diagnosed with brain damage, she cannot work, drive or even stand for long periods of time. As of April this year, just over 13,000 vaccine-injury compensation claims have been filed with the federal government — but to little avail. Only 19% have been reviewed. Only 47 of those were deemed eligible for compensation, and only 12 have been paid out, at an average of about $3,600”
First time in court documents AstraZeneca admits its Covid vaccine can cause side effects
“AstraZeneca has admitted for the first time in court documents that its Covid vaccine can cause a rare side effect, in an apparent about-turn that could pave the way for a multi-million legal payout. The pharmaceutical giant is being sued in a class action over claims that its vaccine, developed with the University of Oxford, caused death and serious injury in dozens of cases. Lawyers argue the vaccine produced a side effect which has had a devastating effect on families”
How realistic are protesters divestment demands in the conflict between Hamas and Israel
“Some University of Ottawa students who have settled into an indefinite encampment on campus are pushing for the school to divest from companies they say have ties to Israel and the conflict in Gaza, but some experts say that isn't so simple. Pro-Palestinian activists have set up encampments at university campuses across the U.S. and Canada, demanding school administrators disclose investments and pull funding from companies contributing to the Israeli military”
