“A BC Supreme Court judge has refused to certify a proposed class-action lawsuit against Dr. Bonnie Henry for COVID-19-era restrictions, ruling it an abuse of process. Justice David Crerar concluded that the proposed class action, which alleged breaches of four sections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, is almost certainly the largest and most complex in Canadian legal history”

British Columbians divided on UNDRIP legislation
“British Columbians are divided on DRIPA – the legislation BC passed in 2019 to align with UNDRIP, the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The legislation recognizes Indigenous rights and title and involves First Nations in decisions about public land and development. The Angus Reid Institute’s poll shows 39% of those surveyed think the UNDRIP legislation is necessary, but even more – 44% – think the laws go too far in limiting provincial authority over land and resources”
Creditors circle BC ostrich farmers’ unpaid bills
“As the farm has sought public support and donations for a federal court battle to keep the flock alive, creditors claim the business owners have ignored BC Supreme Court orders to repay debts worth more than $250,000. As a result, creditors have attempted to garnishee the CFIA in a bid to intercept any compensation issued to the ostrich farm if Canada’s top court allows the slaughter to go ahead”
UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and net-zero banking
“A global banking group that Prime Minister Mark Carney helped launch in 2021 to fight climate change has voted to shut down. Carney helped establish the group in his role as UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance in the lead-up to the UN climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2021. The banking alliance was a key pillar in the broader Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero that aimed to bring the financial sector on board with climate efforts. At the time, Carney said the alliance would act as a strategic forum to ensure a broader, deeper and faster transition to a net zero economy”
